Cement Lime-Mix

Product description
CEMEX Portland Cement-Lime Mix is a factory blended product consisting of Portland Cement that meets ASTM C-150 Specifications and hydrated lime that meets ASTM C-207 (Type S) Specifications. This Portland Cement-Lime Mix is mixed with 1:2¼ to 1:3½ cubic feet of sand meeting ASTM C-144 Specifications, and will produce a mortar that exceeds the requirements of ASTM C-270 and U.B.C. 24-20B for Type N or S Portland Cement-Lime Mortar.

Installation

Mixing
One bag of CEMEX PC/L Mix should be mixed with 2¼ to 3 cubic feet of damp masonry sand meeting ASTM C-144. Introduce to a running mixer, the major portion of water and half the sand required. Next, add the PC/L Mix followed by the remainder of the sand and trim off with small increments of water to the desired workability. Continue to mix after all ingredients are added for at least three minutes and preferably five minutes for optimum qualities.

Admixtures
No admixtures should be used without the written approval of the architect. If admixtures are specified, they must be checked before the job starts under the parameters of the Property Specifications of ASTM C-270.

Hot Weather and Retempering
Mortars exposed to hot winds and full sun will tend to lose workability due to the evaporation of water. Common sense precautions should be taken to protect the mortar such as shading the mixer, wetting mortar boards, covering wheelbarrows and tubs, and balancing mortar production to meet demand. If it is necessary to restore workability, mortar may be retempered by adding water and remixing. No mortar shall be used or retempered beyond 2½ hours after the initial mixing in order to preclude using any mortar that may have begun to hydrate.

Cold Weather Precautions
Mortar should be maintained at a minimum temperature of 40° F as prescribed by standard cold weather masonry specifications. Cold weather admixtures should be approved by the architect.
