M

Main, girder
Reference or guide used to control the floor level or thickness of flatten.

Mason‘s float
Tool to keep and carry mortar, usually a cured, flat metal or wooden piece, of approximately 25 to 35 cms., with a wooden handle at center of the lower part, used to apply gypsum.

Masonry
Masonry works made with building elements such as stones, bricks bonded together with some adhesive.

Masonry cement
Hydraulic cement, very workable, used to bond together partitions, brick and stones for coating, smooth surfaces, etc.

Massive concrete
Concrete strained for constructions of great dimensions, that because of their volume can produce hydration heat that forces us to take special measures to minimize cracks in the building.

Mechanical Strengh
Maximum capacity that materials are capable of supporting before they reach they destruction limit.

Mill
Cylindrical revolving equipment made of steel, with metallic balls of various diameters that crush raw materials, already dosed.

Mix
Action to mix constituents of concrete or mortar, in order to form an homogeneous mass.

Mixer truck
Equipment used to mix aggregates, cement and water to produce freshly placed concrete.

Modulus of Elasticity
Ratio between normal stress and the corresponding unitary deformation, for tensile or compressive stresses before its destruction limit.

Modulus of Rupture
Value obtained by indirect procedure to determine tensile strength by the twist of a standard beam.

Mortar
Mixture of cement, fine aggregates and water.
