CEMEX Employee Development Offerings
CEMEX products are used to build some of the most magnificent structures: the highest buildings, strongest bridges and most durable streets. But at CEMEX it's not necessarily the structures that we are building that are the most impressive-we are also building great careers. We are doing this, in a large part, through extensive training programs that are offered to our employees.
CEMEX Learning
Through CEMEX Learning, employees have the opportunity to customize their development into IDPs (Individual Development Plans) with individual and business related development needs. The CEMEX Learning Management System (LMS) provides a variety of e-learning courses, currently with more than 400 titles in five languages (English, Spanish, French, German and Polish). For example, there are a list of 20 e-learning courses on Safety in both English and Spanish. Currently close to 17,000 employees worldwide have access to the CEMEX LMS.
Plant and Field Level Opportunities
Training for employees who work on our sites and have limited computer access is designed and managed at a local level. For example, several of our locations are implementing initiatives to train and certify drivers. In addition, employees at the plants can learn safety response skills or accident investigation techniques and procedures in a few courses. Cement Manufacturing 101 and Concrete 101 provides new hires a better understanding about manufacturing basics. There are courses for emerging leaders and ones that teach management essentials. Additional instructor-led courses focus on customer service, safety and computer skills such as Powerpoint or Excel. CEMEX also offers position-specific skills development.
Leadership Programs
The CEMEX strategy is to provide diverse development opportunities for employees with leadership potential, according to their career level. We partner with world class universities and executive development consultants to provide challenging learning experiences with relevant content and up to date methodologies, always aligned to our business strategy.
For example, CEMEX offers the CEMEX International Management Program (CIMP) for middle management and the Graduate Scholarship Program. The CEMEX International Management Program aims at developing the management skills and knowledge of top-performing middle managers each year. The program is run at Stanford University, the INSEAD business school and the Tecnológico de Monterrey, allowing participants to develop managerial skills while establishing long lasting professional relationships with peers around the world. It covers a range of managerial fields including strategy, marketing, and human resources, and several CEMEX-specific topics. As part of the program, participants are divided in teams to implement real projects with tangible results, which are presented to a senior management panel. The Graduate Scholarship Program aims at providing outstanding employees with the financial support necessary to cover their tuition and basic needs during their graduate studies in Business Administration (MBAs and Sloan) and technical disciplines (determined based on the talent needs within each operation). Each year approximately 20 people have the opportunity to spend one to two years improving their business or technical skills at one of the top educational institutions around the world.
On the Job Development
Participations in Post-Merger Integration (PMI), Due Diligences and International Assignments are also considered excellent On the Job development opportunities.
In addition to participating in the above programs, CEMEX in the USA also provides instructor-led courses on Leadership for middle to senior level executives and Managerial Skills for line managers.
