CEMEX Navigation Plant in Houston Earns Prestigious National Award.
CEMEX Inc., the nation's largest producer of cement, ready-mix and concrete products, today announced that it has received a National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) 2006 Environmental Excellence Award for Category C facilities (more than 100,000 cubic yards annually). The CEMEX Navigation Plant in Houston, Texas received Honorable Mention. This is the fourth award won by CEMEX's Houston Ready Mix facilities in the past two years.
"This year's NRMCA Award is another outstanding example of our management team's commitment to raise the environmental standards at CEMEX," said Steve Wise, executive vice president of ready mix, aggregates and concrete products. "The Navigation facility is our highest production plant in Texas, and is surrounded by water, which makes this award that much more significant in light of the technical challenges continuously confronted at this site. We are very proud of our team."
Other CEMEX facilities in Houston that have won environmental awards are the Katy and Cutten Plants. In 2005, The Katy Plant won a First Place NRMCA Environmental Excellence Award for Category B facilities (50,000 - 100,000 cubic yards of annual production). Also in 2005, the Cutten Plant won First Place in Category C (more than 100,000 cubic yards of annual production) and First Place in the Comeback Kid category.
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association's Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards offer companies national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practice in their operations. Now in its 11th year, the program salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment.
